Early morning arrival to Iquitos. Transfer to Nauta city, located 1.5 hour from the airport. Along the way, you will see various aspects of daily jungle life. You will be part of a select group of seasoned world travelers who will visit remote Pacaya Samiria Reserve, five million acres of protected flooded forest. A world of flora and fauna awaits you. Board the Delfin I, a unique and small river vessel. Enjoy the personal attention and your exquisite and cozy suite. Just before dusk, as the vessel starts its journey into the rainforest, enjoy fantastic panoramic views and a cocktail made with regional fruits and Pisco, the national brandy liquor of Peru. You will have an illustrative brief orientation of your journey.
Dinner, served in a cozy dining room, is a great culinary experience offering the best of Amazonian-Peruvian cuisine. On the top observation deck, After dinner, at the third deck you can enjoy stargazing while you cruise into the depths of the Amazon Rainforest. The vessel has an open bridge policy, so you are welcome to learn about the navigation systems and spend time with the driving captain at any time.
Bird watching experience just before breakfast. Early rising is always rewarding since wildlife is most abundant and active. After breakfast, explore one of the most important zones of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Hike through a pristine and unique flooded ecosystem, passing through a classic tropical rainforest with emergent trees and canopy trees reaching up to 55 meters in height. This jungle trail takes you to deep into the rainforest on terra firme (non-flooded forest). This kind of forest is probably one of the richest habitats on earth, supporting the most species of plants and animals per unit area. You will encounter local medicinal plants and will also have a very good opportunity for spotting birds. Return to the vessel for lunch.
Cruise through the Yanayacu and Pucate Rivers, peeking into different creeks and lagoons of one of the best preserved and protected zones of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. You will appreciate the amazing biodiversity of the area discovering some of the myriad bird species, colorful butterflies, noisy monkey troops or active dolphins. You may interact directly with the waters of the Amazon going out on paddle boards. What about swimming in the jungle river along with the famous pink dolphins? -Enjoy the black river waters and discover this mysterious and bountiful destination.
Return to the vessel. Navigation. Dinner enjoying the sweet breeze of the Amazonian night and the wonderful symphony of the jungle.
Breakfast. This is a unique opportunity. Walk through primary forest and paddle slowly through Tahuampa Lake, a black water lagoon with giant Araipama fishes, known as “paiche”, the largest freshwater fish in the world to visit a private reserve with 8 hanging bridges high up in the rainforest canopy. At a height of over 25 meters (85 feet) and extending for 500 meters (one-third of a mile), the Canopy Walkway provides a view of the rainforest from the treetops, the best vantage point for observing Amazon wildlife and vegetation. The suspended walkway is one of the longest canopy walkways in the world. Return to the vessel for lunch.
Afternoon exploration of Jacinto Cocha, or Nauta Caño Creek where you will have the chance to do some kayaking. Enjoy dynamic and stunning panoramas. Sail quietly near shore, exploring marshes, streams and oxbows.
Head to a beautiful lake for a spectacular spot, expecting to catch some fish; the target will be “piranhas”, a challenging experience not to be forgotten. Once it is dark, start a night safari in search of caiman alligators and night birds. Stargazing at this time is unique while fireflies light up the jungle around you. Navigation and dinner.
Breakfast. On board the skiffs, visit San Francisco Community and know the locals who have called Amazonia their home for generations. Stroll around the village and appreciate how simple their life is. They will show you their arts and craft market that will be displayed for you to appreciate their work. Return to the vessel for lunch. Transfer to Nauta visiting the Manatees Rescue Center en route, having the chance to meet baby manatees and learn about this pacific and wonderful creatures and why they are in the endangered species list. Continue on to Iquitos airport to board the flight for your next destination.
