It was a civilization contemporaneous with Babylon and China at its greatest and the progress of research on this site with monumental stone architecture and clear evidence of ceremonial functions, has revealed the complex organization and technology reached by this culture.
Early morning departure in a journey along the Panamericana Norte Highway for 182 km. Continue on for a non-paved road to Caral. World Heritage listed site covers an area of around 60 hectare and recent excavations revealed an elaborate complex of temples, plazas and some of the largest pyramids in the world. Caral’s antiquity makes Peru one of the seven cradles of civilization.
