Day 1 and 2 Puerto Maldonado – Jungle lodge

Upon arrival to Puerto Maldonado, proceed to the river port and depart by motor boat to your lodge. While sailing down the river, enjoy the beautiful Amazon jungle having an introduction to one of the most spectacular areas of virgin forests in the world.

During your days in the jungle (activities vary depending on the selected lodge)

Learn about the biodiversity of the area by walking in open trails, appreciate the flora and fauna with different types of vegetation, birds and animals as brown capuchin and squirrel monkeys…just discover the incredible realm of the Amazon rainforest. Visit a scaffolding canopy tower to obtain spectacular views of the vast forest: toucans, parrots or macaws can be seen; visit lookout towers designed for birdwatching and viewing other animals living at this altitude.

Paddle around a beautiful lake in a canoe, searching for a resident family of the endangered giant river otters and other lakeside wildlife as red howler monkeys, macaws, prehistoric hoatzins or “shanshos”, herons and ospreys.

Visit a parrot clay lick to observe dozens of parrots and parakeets descend on most clear mornings to ingest the clay on a river bank. Get to know a communal organization that produces medicines and learn about the different medicinal plants.

Immerse yourself into this unique and different world and get unforgettable memories while spotting birds hiding in the canopy, elusive monkeys and spectacular plant life. Enjoy spectacular sunsets and countless oranges and pinks reflecting off the water in lovely patterns and at night, when mammals are active but rarely seen, witness the fascinating transformation from a diurnal to a nocturnal environment. Listen to the frogs with shapes and bizarre sounds and other animals and birds adapted to the night.

Day 3 Jungle lodge –Puerto Maldonado

Return to Puerto Maldonado sailing by the river, and transfer to the headquarters to pick up the large luggage not taken to the lodge before proceeding to the airport to board your flight. This may require a dawn departure depending on your flight schedule and selected lodge.
